The best-selling author of the China Rich List has become so much of a household name, many Chinese even do not realize Hoogewerf is a foreigner living in Shanghai.
After two visits to the local bookstore in Jiangmen, Guangdong province, the Jiangmen Ribao praises the Luxembourg native extensively (in translation):

Many people have heard about Hu's name, his Chinese name, but Hu is in fact a foreigner, the foreigner is also an "old China hand."
